Laugh More: Worry Less

We have all probably heard the tune about not worrying just being happy. However, it is not as easy as it seems. Or is it? Can worrying less and laughing more really be an attainable goal?

Just like any other goal, laughing more is something that, yes, you can achieve and do it daily. It is all a matter of focus. Your thoughts will go where you focus them. For example, if you focus on the bad day you had at work, your thoughts will linger in that place – a place of stress and tension. However, if you focus on the fact that thank goodness your miserable work day is over and done with, then you can focus on how happy you feel to go home.

Beside making you feel better, laughter really is the best medicine. There are several reasons why laughing and smiling are good for you.

If you could realize how much money, time and effort are spent on eating the right foods, reading the perfect book on happiness, exercising a certain way, taking up the right ancient practice whether it is mediation or yoga, you would be shocked.

We spend billions upon billions of dollars trying to be happy when all we have to do is practice the art of smiling and laughing.

We all have that one friend, the one who makes us laugh till we cry. It is so important to reach out for friends like this when we need a lift. Scientific studies and research are now showing that smiling and laughing is good for our health and here are some examples:

Release Endorphins

Smiling releases endorphins that can do battle with stress hormones. If you want to ward off the common cold, you take extra Vitamin C. So, why not try an extra smile or two and ward off the stress monster.

Lower Blood Pressure

Smiling sets off a chain of relaxation for the body and especially the heart. When you have a happy heart, you have a healthy heart, as well. Smiling lowers your blood pressure for a bit, as well.

Regains Your Sense of Gratitude

When you smile, it automatically makes you remember things you have to smile about almost instantly. You can’t help but remember a silly thing you did as a child or a fond memory you hope to achieve in the future.

Smiling and Laughing Brings Less to Worry About

When you smile and laugh, you automatically attract more to smile and laugh about, as well. It also makes you attractive to other individuals. People tend to veer away from angry faces but tend to gravitate to smiling faces.

When you smile, the whole world does smile along with you.

Be of Good Cheer

Have you ever noticed how infrequently you smiled at someone and did not receive a smile in return. It’s almost considered good manners. If you smile at someone, they smile back at you. It’s universal. A smile does not speak any different language. It is understood by all.

These are just a few good reasons to smile and a few good examples of what smiling does for the universe. I challenge you the next time you have a task at hand that is stressful or you are trying something new, smile while you are doing it. You won’t believe the difference it makes!
